How Resale Scout works
The full walkthrough plus answers to common questions.
1
Snap a photo. Branded, well-lit, full item in frame. Include the label or model number if visible.
2
Tap "Identify item." The AI returns a search query optimized for sold-listings lookups.
3
Pick a platform. eBay sold listings give you real recent prices. Mercari, Poshmark, and Facebook Marketplace show their version.
4
Generate a listing. Get a title, description, condition, and price range you can paste straight into eBay or Mercari.
5
Use the profit calculator. Enter what you'd pay. It subtracts ~13.5% fees and shows your projected profit range.
6
Hit the Coach tab any time to ask about shipping, pricing, or strategy. The coach knows what item you just scouted.
FAQ
Is my data saved anywhere?
Your scout history lives only in your browser (localStorage) — it never leaves your phone. Photos are sent to OpenAI for identification only and are not retained by Resale Scout.
How accurate is the price range?
Right now it's an AI estimate. Real prices from eBay sold listings come in v3 once eBay approves our developer account (1-2 weeks). Until then, tap the eBay button to see real sold prices manually.
What's the best photo to take?
Branded items, model numbers, and labels boost accuracy a lot. Avoid blurry, low-light, or extreme-angle shots. Plain background helps the AI focus on the item.
Does it work on anything?
Best on branded goods (sneakers, electronics, tools, collectibles, name-brand clothing). Weakest on generic, handmade, or one-of-a-kind items where there's no resale comp.
Is the profit calculator using real fees?
It uses a ~13.5% blended platform fee — close to eBay's average. Mercari runs ~10%, Poshmark 20% over $15. Treat the number as a rough cut, not exact.
